Stage One

Inside the Qmotion & Automation Department

Article

With our business focused on turning creative ideas into jaw dropping reality, the Qmotion and Automation department provides the creative pulse and innovative drive behind some of Stage One’s greatest transformations. Whether it be flying performers across a stadium, flying scenery into an arena, spinning a car on a revolve, revealing a vast statue from beneath a stage. This team deliver the complete package of automation and control.

The Qmotion and Automation department inhabit a series of small workshops and large, dedicated test areas. Recent work includes developments in animation and profile modelling, hugely improving the speed at which we can implement our clients’ previsualisations. One of the most complex automation projects was the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Ceremonies. Our brief was to develop a comprehensive aerial track system to accurately fly performers and very large scenic elements around Sochi’s Fisht Stadium.

The wealth of specific knowledge, experience and skill in this department allows us to fulfil the brief for complex technical projects entirely in-house. They deliver a wide range of electrical engineering expertise that allows us to create control systems for our projects, develop the software we use, design the custom circuit boards that underpin our Qmotion motion control system – and all with an eye on R&D, finding new and better ways to making whatever our clients need.
