Following the award-winning Johnnie Walker Experience Princes Street, in 2022 we reunited with our colleagues at BRC Imagination Arts to deliver two renovation projects for world-acclaimed brands, both in remote locations on the ‘Whisky coast’ off the Hebrides of Scotland.

Talisker ‘Made by The Sea’ is a multi-sensory experience, and the room envelopes visitors in visual storytelling, not least due to our hand-painted ceiling mural. Over eleven days, our scenic painters carefully developed and layered details on every inch of the artwork to depict the rugged landscape that surrounds the distillery. To add a level of luxury to the build we manufactured the interactive 6m x 3.4m projection table out of carbon fibre, and applied a high-end gloss finish to the curved architectural timber shelving unit that displays the products and provides a focal point that celebrates the brand.

The atmosphere at Caol Ila’s distillery has an industrial feel to celebrate its history. One of the main features here is the curved partition walls that guide visitors through the experience. It was manufactured to include recessed artefact cases that contain bottles of Caol Ila. In addition, we created prominent features within the room, including: a highly accurate and sizable 3D topographical map table at 3.1m in diameter; floor-to-ceiling scenic scent columns; and a curved projection wall. For those sampling a dram in the tasting area, Stage One produced the sophisticated slatted beam-topped booth, the plush seating bench, and tasting trays. Within the booth, we had to be mindful to ensure thirteen people would comfortably fit at the table. To accommodate, we came up with the solution to build the framework with inverted-angled steel legs to maximise leg room and provide ample space for wheelchair users.

Our positioning as a multi-disciplined team allowed core elements of the build to pass through every part of the workshop before heading to its final destination for assembly. Both spaces had to be beautiful and functional, and considerations had to be made for essential cables that controlled the initiative elements.
