Stage One was contracted to deliver a new stage lift in the Al Wasl Plaza of Expo City Dubai.

Designed by our in-house mechanical engineers, we set to work and the lift was manufactured and test built in our workshops in the UK. We fabricated the steel frameworks; a central puck lift that sits within a main lift, that can travel as independent units, or the puck lift can be bolted to the underside of the main lift to travel as a single unit where a larger surface area is required.

The stage was formed with steel pallets topped with ply and finished with rubber-like non-slip surface in a design to marry with the original stage we installed for EXPO 2020 Dubai (click here).

Automation was provided with a 75kW four-motor assembly in the main lift, with two separate smaller motors powering the puck lift. The largest motors we have ever worked with, this new lift design also required novel components. Thankfully, we have an excellent machine shop that can deliver complex output quickly and accurately.

The lift was then weight tested, supporting both static and dynamic loads.

Installation on site first involved removal of the existing lift, for which we added rigging points and lifted the material out, covering the stage in a protective layer to prevent damage to the surface.

Finally, with the implementation of our Qmotion automation and stage engineering products we replaced the client’s entire control system, including cables and drives, resulting in a reliable and quick lift for future events at Expo City.
