Created specifically for the opening of Aviva Studios in Manchester, Free Your Mind is a dance adaptation of The Matrix that describes our evolving relationship with machines. Directed by Danny Boyle with set design by Es Devlin the show is the brainchild of some of our favourite collaborators.

We were fortunate to have had a small hand in some of the scenography. We manufactured and installed four large-scale geometric pieces that served as entry and exit tunnels to the show. The set design presented a central catwalk with a large tunnel, 7.6m high by 5m wide, situated at each end as the performers access route. Two smaller tunnels, each 7.6m high by 3.8m wide, provided wayfinding for the show’s visitors to navigate through the venue.

Comprised of a minimal steel frame with much of the structure and cladding from plywood, each tunnel was built in five segments, transported, and installed on site, working with other contractors to integrate them into the overall set design.
