Today was the UK’s National Day at the Milan Expo and the occasion was marked with a series of events including a high-profile visit from a UK Government delegation headed by Prime Minister, David Cameron and UK Trade Minister, Lord Maude.
The UK delegation were accompanied by Italian PM Matteo Renzi as they were taken through the UK’s site experiencing the orchard, meadow and Hive, which highlight the vital role of the honey bee in pollinating the world’s crops, before making their way to the terrace and hospitality areas.
The Prime Minister personally met the team responsible for the design and realisation of the pavilion, including our MD Mark Johnson, who had the opportunity to answer Mr Cameron’s questions relating to the complex manufacture of the entire Hive structure in Yorkshire and the equally complex installation process on site in Milan; as well as briefly discussing a few of our future projects.
There has been much praise for the pavilion, with Architects’ Journal editor, Rory Olcayto describing it as the “stand out beauty” of Expo 2015. See links below.
